12th House Profection

I just turned 23, and naturally, I wanted to know what this year might bring for me. However, instead of looking at personal transits or even sun sign horoscopes, I decided to check out my annual profection. For those who don’t know, yearly profections come from a Hellenistic method of astrology based on house interpretation determined by age. Each age takes a house for itself and continues
forward as time goes on. For example, the first house rules age 0, or the first year you were born. The second house rules one; two is governed by the third, and so forth as it cycles around the 12 houses.

This year I have a 12th house profection, and in the usual 12th house style, I can’t quite fully grasp what it means. Usually, annual readings are easier to understand when reflecting after the year. However, as an astrologer, it’s my passion to read into this a bit more before the year ends.

I’m a Scorpio rising; therefore, Libra rules my 12th house. At the time of my birth, Mars sat quietly in Libra, making this year an odd combination of activity with my natal placements.

So what exactly do I have to look forward to? Well, let’s start with the house itself. The 12th house gets a bad reputation for classically representing karmic undoing, limiting institutions, illusions, and spiritual beliefs. On the contrary, this portion of the wheel has much more to offer. In fact, it’s the last step on the ladder before reaching the next life, making it my favorite house to study. The 12th house is a water house, which means it holds deep connections within the inner psyche of oneself. This connection is suspended within a subconscious realm that connects one to godly or ungodly power, depending on the person. It’s the place our dreams come alive at night, the home of our future ambitions, and the visceral fears we don’t quite understand. If the 12th house existed in the third dimension, it would probably be a birthmark on a human stomach representing the wound of a soldier who had fallen long before
being re-born as a priest. The sign of Libra rules beauty, partnerships and diplomacy. Given these meanings, I could be called to tend to my spiritual nature with a partner or redefine inner beauty.

As a person with psychic gifts, that feels familiar.

Since five is the collective sum of 23, there’s also a heavy emphasis on this year surrounding rapid change. 5 is a powerful balance of masculine and feminine forces and represents the human body’s five senses. The 12th house could call on me to remember that the body is in itself an intuitive gift.

Recalling mine ruled by Libra, aspects with Venus are also key pieces to consider. Who knows. Perhaps I must encounter unique things that bring me joy or find joy within a hidden place of memory. After all, my favorite hobby is an ancient language that connects personalities to ageless bodies of matter.

I guess we’ll know for sure at the end of December.
